International Recording Artist

SALIM WASHINGTON is an international recording artist who has recorded several critically acclaimed CDs as a leader.

These include Love in Exile ("If a person had to choose only one adjective to describe Love In Exile, it would be "lush." "Exuberant," "inspired" and "optimistic" also apply"), Harlem Homecoming ("Harlem Homecoming is a breath of fresh air, a powerful musical statement that will surely give hope to those who bemoan the future of jazz"), Live at St. Nick's ("One thing is for certain: this is live jazz at its very finest"), and Strings ("Washington has an unassuming power in his sound . . . the album's spirit subsumes its many stylistic fine points").

Salim has contributed mightily as a sideman and guest composer on the stages and recordings of other artists, including some of the most significant musicians in the contemporary scene such as ANTHONY BRAXTON, KUUMBA FRANK LACY, FRED HO, and others. His debut recording was with trumpeter BILLY SKINNER'S Kosen Rufu. He played tenor and flute as the main soloist for the band, and contributed an original composition, "En Route" (re-recorded on his own CDs under its original title, "To Know Yaweh").
